Gayle and Buddy

Friend, mentor, teacher, sounding board, confidant,
show ring star, herding partner, obedience lover,
loyal and faithful companion.  The only dog in my
house who would offer his life for me.
I am so grateful for every day we had together.
He will live forever in my heart.

Thanks Jean and Barb who were with me today.
Thanks Dr. Connie Pozniak & staff for making his
passing as easy and peaceful as possible.
Thanks Don & Cecelia for the little runt red brindle
puppy who would change my life.

Now he is free and out of pain.  That is the final
gift I could give him.

Sleep sweetly, Buddy.
I will always love you.  I will never, ever, ever
forget you.

Gayle

Buddy is my first Cardigan and my very best buddy.  He was supposed to be just a pet but he turned out to be a great show dog.  His happy attitude and obvious enjoyment of the ring really hooked me into the sport of showing dogs.  He had great success in the ring too; 34 Best of Breed wins, many over top 10 Cardigans.  Canine Chronicle rated him #8 in breed points for the year 1995.  In June of 1996 he earned a Group I at Forsyth Kennel Club in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  All these wins were (novice) owner handled.  After he retired from conformation competition, Buddy began pursuing a new activity: agility.  With his new best friend and co-owner Jean Conroy, Buddy learned to enjoy the agility ring.  He earned his Novice Agility title and his Novice Jumpers With Weaves in 1999 with Jean at the helm.  He earned his herding HT title at the 2000 CWCCA National specialty after just a few months of lessons, and his PT later that year.  These titles qualified him for the CWCCA Versatility Excellent Certificate, an award given to only 16 Cardigans before him.  I am so very proud of Buddy and his accomplishments.

At the 2001 Cardigan National Specialty dog show, Buddy continued his winning ways.  He qualified both days in obedience, earning his CD title.  Along the way he was First Place in Novice B, and High Scoring Champion of the trial.  He also got to strut his stuff in the Herding Titled Dog conformation class, and he won it!  I was so proud I nearly burst my buttons.
